Governor Zulum inaugurates council to resettle IDPs and refugees.
Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno State on Monday, initiated committee for the resettlement of internally displaced individuals and refugees that are indigenes of Abadam Local Government to Malamfatori, the local government headquarters.
In his inaugural speech, Governor Zulum expressed concern over the fate of several persons residing across different IDP camps in the State. The Governor also remarked that Borno’s community deserve healthy and distinguished lives, which he explained can only be accomplished when people are resettled back to their different neighborhoods.
Zulum recanted that internally displaced individuals have previously returned to Kukawa, Ajiri, Kawuri, Bama, Ngoshe, and Marte Local Government Areas, during which they were empowered with vocational equipments and financial assistance to enable them begin their lives and involve in productive economic activities.
The Governor furthermore assured to deliver the necessary infrastructural advancement in all corners of the State, in spite of the daunting obstacles fueled by the devastating Covid-19 pandemic.
While noting the committee’s terms of reference, Zulum instructed them to commence the relocation of individuals that are ready to return on the 27th of November 2021.
Earlier, Zulum authorized them to immediately begin the restoration and reconstruction works that will open doors for the internally displaced persons and refugees to return back.
The Governor said, the committee should employ all regulations that will guarantee security of lives and properties, boost the establishment of civil authorities on ground and ensure protection and safety of returnees while on transit to Malamfatori.
The committee which is made up of 24 members is chaired by the Commissioner of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Engr. Bukar Talba.
