The Lagos state Zonal Head of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ghali Ahmed, has disclosed the reason the commission prosecute fraudsters faster than suspected politician.
The President Buhar’s adminisration has stated that it would leave no stone unturned in its fight against corruption in the country. Ghali Ahmed has revealed the problem encounterd in bringing suspected politician to book.
According to Ahmed Ghali, he said it is easier to prosecute suspected internet fraudster than suspected politician. He said that prosecuting a suspected politician is a complex process.
During his interview on TVC, Ghali was questioned about the dissimilarity in success percentage recorded by EFCC in prosecuting internet fraudsters and politicians. Ghali Ahmed responded to the question by saying, “You can establish a case of cybercrime within an hour because it is very straightforward. With the custody of one email scam, you can indict and sentence a suspected internet fraudster.”
Ghali further explained that the case of politicians is different due to Its complexity which has to do with funds and money laundering. He said it could take a year to ascertain such cases. He added that politicians could afford lawyers and this could extend the prosecution time, while fraudsters may not be able to afford a lawyer.
